EverReed field guide

Read your CBZ and CBR comics alongside your books

A comic archive holds a sequence of image pages: CBZ uses ZIP and CBR uses RAR. EverReed opens supported archives as ordered pages, keeps your reading progress with your library and lets you return to the page you left. Bring files you own, or connect a compatible personal server over HTTPS.

What you get

Designed around the way readers actually move.

  • Upload a comic you own

In the Read area, add a CBZ or CBR file from your device. Once it is ready, open it in EverReed. Upload size and storage limits depend on your plan.

  • Read from Komga or Kavita

Add your server’s HTTPS OPDS catalog and its credentials in Personal Server setup. Sync the catalog, then open a readable comic. The server must publish a usable acquisition link; EverReed does not reorganize your files.

  • Pages in a natural order

Image pages follow natural filename order, so page 2 comes before page 10. Use page navigation and the table of contents to move through the archive. A book’s page names and archive structure determine the order.

  • Keep your place

Page progress and resume use your existing EverReed account. Close the comic and return through Continue Reading, with your books and comics in the same library.

  • Understand image-page controls

Comic pages are images. Reflowing fonts, dictionary lookup, text search and text highlighting do not apply to them. Text ebooks retain their own reading tools.

  • When a comic will not open

Check the compressed file size, whether the archive has a password, and whether it contains supported images. Rename incorrectly numbered pages on your server if the order is wrong. For a failed server download, check the connection and credentials.

Useful details

Frequently asked questions.

Can I read CBZ and CBR on iPhone and Android?

Yes. EverReed supports readable CBZ and CBR image archives on iPhone, Android and web through its built-in reading experience. You provide the file or a compatible server source.

How large can a Personal Server comic be?

CBZ and CBR Personal Server downloads can be up to 100 MiB compressed. Other Personal Server formats have a 50 MiB limit. Expanded-size, page-size and page-count safeguards still apply, and large comics can use more device memory.

Are direct-upload limits the same?

No. Free direct uploads have a 50 MB per-file limit; Plus has 150 MB. Storage and file-count quotas also depend on your plan. The Personal Server comic limit is separate.

Does EverReed convert my comics to EPUB?

No. Supported comic archives are read as image pages. Your original archive and server organization stay unchanged.

Can I read comics offline?

EverReed is not an offline-first comic reader. Plan to have a connection for server downloads and account progress syncing.

Why might a cover be missing while the comic opens?

Server thumbnails and comic downloads are separate resources. A server may omit a cover or require authentication for it. A missing cover does not by itself mean the comic file is unreadable.
