EverReed field guide

Connect your personal ebook library

Access books from a personal ebook server you already run, browse them inside EverReed, and read them through the built-in reader — while your files stay on your server.

What you get

Designed around the way readers actually move.

  • Keep control of your own ebook files

Your books stay on your own server. EverReed reads them on demand and does not store copies of your files.

  • Browse your personal library inside EverReed

Your server's books appear next to the rest of your EverReed library, so tracking and reading live in one app.

  • Read without app-switching

Open supported books directly in EverReed's built-in reader — no separate ebook app required for reading time.

  • One reading profile across sources

Progress, bookmarks, and highlights work the same whether a book came from an upload or from your personal server.

Useful details

Frequently asked questions.

Can I connect my own ebook server?

Yes. EverReed can connect to a personal ebook catalog you already run, provided it exposes an OPDS-compatible feed over HTTPS.

Does EverReed host my server?

No. EverReed never hosts, provisions, or manages your server. You are responsible for running and securing it.

Do I need to own the ebook files?

Yes. You are responsible for the books on your server. EverReed does not supply ebook files and does not endorse serving files you do not have the right to use.

Which server types are supported?

EverReed currently connects to servers that expose an OPDS-compatible catalog over HTTPS. Local-network URLs and non-HTTPS addresses are not supported. Any specific self-hosted platform is only supported to the extent it exposes a compatible OPDS feed — we do not maintain a list of vendor integrations.

Can I read server books inside EverReed?

Yes. Supported files served through your OPDS catalog can be opened in EverReed's built-in reader. The file is streamed from your server on demand rather than stored in EverReed.

Is my personal server required to use EverReed?

No. Personal library server support is optional. You can use EverReed to track and organize books, and to upload EPUB and PDF files, without ever connecting a server.
